Welcome week!

The first week has come to an end! The Lord has introduced us to many many new freshman guys and I am very thankful for the ones he’s given me. This weeks’ busyness was off the charts; however, because of all the events going on and new freshman moving in, we were able to make contact with literally hundreds of them. I’ve got a set of amazing new friends that are now a part of my life and hopefully will be for a long time.

Move-in-day was crazy. Thursday the interns sent out all Chi Alpha small group leaders all through out campus to meet and help move in new freshman. I met many of the guys that I’m still connected with by showing up to the freshman dorms and inviting them to a massive capture the flag game that we had on campus. We estimated probably about 400 students that showed up to play capture the flag. Every year we hold these events so that leaders can get connected with new students and get them into their small groups. Another event we held was a party at the Chi Alpha house, and we called this event EPIC FAIL. Everyone dressed up in the mostĀ embarrassingĀ 80′s attire that they could find, and we held game shows where students would more then likely humiliate themselves in some manner. We had a TON of fun.

Worship on Thursday night was perfect. The small group leaders, interns included, brought in all of our new freshman friends that we made throughout the week and we numbered well over 700 because we barely fit. People were sitting and standing at the back wall of the church the whole night! Next week we have a plan to hold a meeting at 2 locations to even out the numbers. The Lord really moved and spoke to us through the worship and the speaking that was done by one of my intern friends. Eli Stewart, one of our campus pastors and also the worship pastor, got the worship band back together and we seemed to play more together than usual. Praise God! The sermon was a basic story of why we believe Jesus is who He said He was and how that has affected us as a fellowship. We welcomed our new friends and snagged some more people in our small groups. Some of the guys I brought with me said that they “haven’t seen anything like this”, and that this was “something they were looking for.”

I am very very excited about these new guys in my life and I pray that the Lord will bring us closer together as a brotherhood. Some of the names of guys that are really close to my heart (most of them have already agreed to be in my small group) are: Cameron, David, Shaun, Ricky, John, Donovan, Mike, and Evan. Please be praying for these guys and that the Lord would speak to them and change their lives forever. Also be praying for my old small group guys that are now leaders and trying to build small groups along with being in school: Nick Hood, and Jordan Pollock. The Lord has done great things! I’m so excited and grateful for the things He’s done and about to do. I’ll keep you posted on more things to come. Love you and God bless!

First Chi Alpha night!
